Kako sem 100 kg težko litoželezno bano spremenil v basovski instrument / 100 kg bathtub bass

STRUNE v mestu in naravi: Symphonica Machina et Natura.

ENG:

I have been developing this project for about two to three years. During this time, whenever I discovered something in the surroundings that could become part of it, I made a mental note. From my music studio, located in Radlje ob Dravi in the rural part of the village, I first noticed on my hiking path to the nearby Remšnik a large cast-iron tub in a neighbor’s pasture, which was no longer in use (the cows didn’t drink from it). My neighbor Miran was kind enough to bring the tub over with his tractor and even washed it with a pressure washer.

During the process of gathering materials, Danilo Ženko – one of the best sound engineers in Slovenia – offered me an old upright piano that was standing in his studio, out of tune and written off. From this piano, I obtained most of the necessary elements to build these new instruments.

I sourced other structures from recycling centers: an old washing machine, a washing machine drum, and an old metal trash can.

From a nearby stream, I brought a river stone, and from the forest, a decaying piece of pine trunk and a pine branch.

I then strung all these instruments, mostly with piano strings, while the cast-iron tub, which serves as the bass instrument, I equipped with double bass strings.

I received great help in the process from Oskar Kolar – a bassist from Ravne na Koroškem – and from my father, a true encyclopedia of ideas and technical skills.

What is most special about creating in Radlje is the strong sense of community and the fact that everything somehow gets “sorted out.” I cannot imagine creating and realizing this project anywhere else. A big thanks also goes to the Municipality of Velenje, which financially supported the project, and to the Cultural Association Radlje, which provides rehearsal spaces and facilities for the entire production.
